In October 2024, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Giza began a partial opening to the public. Located only about 2 kilometers from the iconic pyramids, it is among the largest archaeological museums in the world. The complex occupies nearly 50 hectares and was designed by the Irish architecture firm Heneghan Peng. After almost two decades of construction, the GEM stands as one of the most ambitious cultural projects of the modern era.

The museum is currently receiving visitors, with 10 of its 12 main galleries already open. Highlights include the massive 83-ton statue of Ramses II, an extensive collection covering around 700,000 years of ancient Egyptian history, and remarkable artifacts connected to the life and reign of Tutankhamun.
